6 tips for a unique conference

You may not like to hear it, but chances are your conference is not as unique as you think. If it is any consolation, most conferences are copy-paste replicas of each other.

Even if you have done your utmost to give it an original and fun sauce to make it seem unique, the basis usually remains the same. Congresses usually start with a general presentation, followed by break-out sessions, a lunch and an expo with trade stands. Predictable, not really surprising and also very familiar.

Why? Because you approach your conference the way you've always done it. And it's worked. So far...

If you really want to restyle your congress and come up with a unique formula, now is the time to question everything and start from scratch. And then you also have to be prepared to approach it completely differently. Away from the familiar, from what you already know and have experienced.

We give you 6 tips that can help you create a new conference experience for your visitors.

1. Create new definitions

Define a conference experience. What makes a conference fresh and exciting for your attendees? Dare to leave the beaten path and go far away from the familiar and predictable that you have known up until now.

2. Rework thoroughly

Forget all your past experiences. Rework thoroughly: create a new design, design a new program and set new goals. Only then will you create a new conference experience for your participants.

3. Revitalize your conference team

If your current conference team is stuck and not ready for renewal, it is high time to inject it with fresh blood. You need new perspectives, new strengths, new ideas.

4. Learn to think differently

Together with your team, look at the what, when, how, where and why of your congress. Brainstorm and share ideas. The craziest first. That the current way of working is the only key to success lives subconsciously in your thoughts. Yet you have to think differently about what you do. If you don't, your results will remain the same.

5. Dare to respect and admire what is different

Show respect for team members who dare to push the boundaries. Admire them for showing that they dare to take risks. Value innovation, differences of opinion and different thoughts.

6. An eye for relationships

Pay special attention to building relationships during your conference. Think about how your conference connects content, ideas, solutions and people. Overloaded conference agendas threaten networking. Dare to cut back on your program and shift your focus to networking.

Good luck!
