The Virginia

The Virginia is a historic downtown Somerset venue available to hire for weddings, conferences, corporate events and other special gatherings. Originally opened as a cinema in 1922, the restored building combines period character with facilities suited to a range of occasions. Its two levels give organisers options for arranging different parts of an event, while a bar on each floor helps guests mingle and enjoy refreshments. A balcony offers an additional viewpoint over the main space, and the stage and specialist lighting can support speeches, performances and reception entertainment.

For weddings, the venue offers private dressing rooms for the wedding party, with the upper floor suited to a cocktail hour. The stage can provide a focal point for a reception, while the room can be arranged to accommodate guests and a first dance. The surrounding historic downtown also offers attractive photo opportunities, and free public parking is available nearby.

Organisers can enquire about hiring The Virginia for a particular event, with estimates tailored to the occasion, expected guest numbers and other requirements. The venue also hosts concerts, theatre, comedy and classic film screenings, reflecting its role as a performance space as well as a private-hire location. Its intimate scale, two-level layout and distinctive theatre atmosphere make it an option for planners seeking a characterful setting in Somerset.
