Whidbey Institute

Whidbey Institute is a forest-based retreat and event venue on the south end of Whidbey Island, around 75 minutes from Seattle including the ferry journey from Mukilteo. Since 1972, the organisation has provided a setting for transformational learning, reflective gatherings and purpose-led programmes.

Event organisers can bring one-day or multi-day workshops, retreats, conferences and strategic planning sessions to the 106-acre campus. The venue is particularly suited to groups seeking a calm, nature-connected environment for leadership development, environmental work, community learning and organisational reflection. Bookings are assessed for fit with the Institute’s mission, with programme enquiries, site tours, rates and available dates handled directly by the team.

The main gathering space, Thomas Berry Hall, accommodates up to 75 people and includes a sound system, projector and screen. Additional spaces include the Commons for smaller groups, the Sanctuary for meditation, movement and breakout sessions, and Storyhouse for intimate gatherings in a woodland setting. Outdoor areas include meadows, forest trails and stone labyrinths, creating plenty of opportunities for informal conversation, quiet reflection and nature-based activities.

Overnight groups can stay across a collection of forest cabins, a restored farmhouse and Granny’s woodland home, with combined accommodation for up to 44 guests. The campus also offers meal service for larger groups, with food prepared around seasonal ingredients and a range of dietary needs where possible. Full-campus and partial-campus bookings are available, while closed-campus use can be arranged for an additional fee.
