Downing College Conferences & Events

Downing College Conferences & Events provides meeting, conference and celebration spaces within the historic grounds of Downing College, close to central Cambridge. Organisers can choose from smaller rooms for board meetings and workshops through to larger theatre-style spaces in the Howard Theatre and Howard Building, which can accommodate up to 150 delegates. The rooms have presentation facilities, and the in-house technology team can assist with audiovisual requirements, recording and streaming. Event staff also work with organisers on room layouts and arrangements before the event and provide support on the day.

The college can host academic programmes, business meetings, conferences, receptions and private dinners. Its catering team serves options ranging from drinks and canapés to buffets, barbecues and formal dinners, with menus centred on seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Private dining spaces include the West Lodge and Maitland Rooms for more intimate gatherings, as well as the College Hall for larger dinners. Landscaped gardens provide outdoor space and a setting for breaks or receptions.

Weddings can include a ceremony in the chapel, a licensed indoor space or the Fellows' Garden, followed by a reception in the college's event rooms. Wedding availability is limited to Downing College Fellows, current students, alumni and staff. Accommodation is also available for event guests, with options dependent on the booking and time of year. The college's event team can help organisers bring the venue, dining, technology and guest arrangements together at one Cambridge location.
