What started 24 years ago with a small tent welded together by hand for the local youth movement has today grown into an established name in the events and festival world. The Tentshop, the company of manager Bert Mattheus, is celebrating nearly a quarter century of craftsmanship and growth.

Passion for technology and custom work

The company's roots lie in the Heist-op-den-Berg region. By manufacturing his first tents, Bert Mattheus proved that he possesses a truly technically skilled and creative mind. That do-it-yourself mentality is still in the company's DNA: The Tentshop has its own workshop where canvases are made and profiles are modified. This allows the company to react quickly and deliver custom work, something that sets them apart in the market.

The road to the big stages

Although the focus in the early years was on local associations, the proximity of Rock Werchter brought about a major turnaround. By committing to strict planning and quality, The Tentshop grew into a regular partner for major festivals and events. "The festival world is small and word-of-mouth is everything," explains Wendy, wife of manager Bert Mattheus, who joined the company three years ago to support its growth.

Professionalization as the key to success

In 24 years, the sector has evolved enormously. Setting up tents has become a complex logistical operation today. The Tentshop has invested heavily in digitalization and streamlined processes. With a new system in which order forms are directly linked to warehouse receipts and detailed schedules, they leave nothing to chance. "We have never been unable to deliver to a customer; we find a solution for every problem," says Wendy.

Looking to the future: The next generation

Stopping is nowhere near in the entrepreneurs' vocabulary. With their daughter joining the business, continuity is assured. Ambition remains high, as evidenced by recent investments in thousands of meters of additional heavy-duty flooring and a unique, in-house floor washing facility. This innovation ensures that floors are delivered to the customer fully cleaned from now on, a service that is rare in the Belgian tent sector.

With a team that grows to as many as 20 employees during the high season, The Tentshop is ready for the next 24 years of growth, innovation, and high-quality events.
