With over 2,700 trained children, the first year of www.ehboshow.be was a success. The interactive first aid shows in schools have been active for only one year and are already a resounding hit. The driving force and manager of the EHBO-show – Marlie van Gils – is already looking forward with great enthusiasm to the new school year to reach even more children and prepare society to help.
What do you do if someone has a nosebleed or gets a nasty scrape? By now, more than 2,700 Flemish schoolchildren know exactly how to do it. Over the past year, Marliedje, together with her parrot hand puppet Pablo from www.ehboshow.be, toured Flemish schools with an interactive theatre production that makes first aid truly fun. No dry presentations, but instead a healthy dose of humor, music, and action... specially tailored to each age group.
The concept is simple: by having children actively participate, the information sticks much better. The shows are divided by age. The little ones learn how to call the emergency services, while the older kids get serious about an introduction to wound care and even resuscitation techniques.
"We notice that children are super enthusiastic," says Marliedje. "By making it an accessible show, we take away the fear. The children participate enthusiastically and afterwards know better what to do in an emergency situation. That way, together we make society a little safer."
Following last year's success, the ambition for the future is clear: to visit even more schools after the summer holidays. After all, the more children know what to do in the event of an accident, the stronger and more helpful our society becomes.

Met ruim 2.700 getrainde kinderen was het eerste jaar van www.ehboshow.be een succes. De interactieve shows over eerste hulp op scholen zijn slechts één jaar actief en nu al een schot in de roos. De bezieler en zaakvoerder van de EHBO-show - Marlie van Gils - kijkt nu al vol enthousiasme uit naar het nieuwe schooljaar om nóg meer kinderen te bereiken en de samenleving klaar te maken om te helpen.
Wat doe je als iemand een bloedneus heeft of een flinke schaafwonde oploopt? Meer dan 2.700 Vlaamse scholieren weten het inmiddels perfect. Het afgelopen jaar trok Marliedje samen met haar handpop papegaai Pablo van www.ehboshow.be langs Vlaamse scholen met een interactieve theaterproductie die EHBO écht leuk maakt. Geen droge presentaties, maar wel met een flinke dosis humor, muziek en actie... speciaal op maat van elke leeftijdsgroep.
Het concept werkt simpel: door kinderen actief mee te laten doen, blijft de info veel beter hangen. De shows zijn opgesplitst per leeftijd. De kleintjes leren hoe ze de hulpdiensten bellen, terwijl de oudere kids al serieus aan de slag gaan met een eerste kennismaking wondzorg en zelfs reanimatietechnieken.
"We merken dat kinderen superenthousiast zijn" zegt Marliedje. "Door er een laagdrempelige show van te maken, halen we de angst weg. De kinderen doen enthousiast mee en weten achteraf beter wat ze moeten doen in een noodsituatie. Zo maken we de samenleving samen een stukje veiliger."
Na het succes van afgelopen jaar is de ambitie voor de toekomst helder: na de zomervakantie nóg meer scholen bezoeken. Hoe meer kinderen immers weten wat ze moeten doen bij een ongeval, hoe sterker en hulpvaardiger onze samenleving wordt.
Scholen en evenementen die hun deelnemers ook willen omtoveren tot mini-hulpverleners, kunnen alvast hun plekje reserveren.
