Have you, too, had clients or guests you will never forget?

As a Master Shoeshiner, my profession goes far beyond simply caring for leather. It creates connections, is a catalyst for emotions and a wonderful magnet for stories at your events – in Belgium and throughout Europe. Polyglot, I serve my clients in 5 languages, instantly breaking down barriers to offer an unforgettable experience to an international clientele.

Today, I would like to share with you three extraordinary encounters that illustrate all the magic and the human connections that unfold around my authentic shoeshine chair. Let me tell you about them.

The day Europe took a seat in my chair

It was early evening. A man, usually surrounded by drivers and bodyguards, approached completely alone. As he settled comfortably into the chair, I was overcome by a feeling of déjà vu. I said spontaneously: “I’m certain we know each other.” And for good reason! We have all held this man’s signature in our hands, printed on our banknotes. It was Jean-Claude Trichet, former President of the European Central Bank. After I had shined his shoes, he added that historic signature to my Guest Book with a huge smile.

Much more than a shoe shine: a moment of coaching and kindness

Less high-profile but just as precious in my eyes was this busy woman who stopped in her tracks in front of my setup. “I only have a few minutes,” she told me, visibly overwhelmed by the stress of a crucial job interview. My mission then became twofold: to restore an impeccable shine to her shoes while calming her mind. To the rhythm of my cashmere brushes, I reassured her with simple words. Months later, she came back to me, radiant: “Your kindness transformed me that day... and I got the job!”

When black shoe polish becomes art: the signature style of Stephan Eicher

My third memorable encounter was with a virtuoso artist, the famous Swiss singer-songwriter Stephan Eicher. While on tour, he had enquired at the hotel reception about whether I was there. True to his reputation as an enthusiast, he came to see me just after his concert. Delighted by our conversation – made easier by our shared love of languages – I handed him my precious Guest Book. But an artist never does things like everyone else... Instead of picking up a pen, he pointed to my prestigious black shoe polish box. He mixed the balm with his fingertips and signed his dedication directly with the shoe polish. A unique, raw and unforgettable impression!
