Inspiring visit from Monaco to Kursaal Oostende

December 11, 2025

On Saturday, November 29, 2025, we welcomed a delegation from Monaco as part of the twinning between our cities. During their visit, they received a detailed explanation of our operations, future plans, and a tour of the ongoing renovation work.

The visit was part of an exchange on cultural infrastructure. The municipality of Monaco is responsible for the multipurpose hall L'Espace Léo Ferré, which will soon make way for a new, flexible theater and event space within the larger L'Îlot Pasteur project (opening in 2026). The many similarities between their plans and our own renovations led to a particularly valuable dialogue about vision, programming, and the public's role in the cultural ecosystem.

As an introduction, we also outlined the broader Ostend performing arts and indoor events scene, including Kursaal Oostende, De Grote Post, Theater Aan Zee, the Oostende Film Festival, and the KAAP arts center, and how each of these players has its own purpose and dynamic within the urban cultural fabric.

We were honored to welcome Mayor Georges Marsan to Ostend, along with Marjorie Crovetto, Axelle Amalberti-Verdino, Karyn Ardisson Salopek, Jade Sapolin, and Andrea Pucknik-Danty.

On behalf of Ostend, Maxim Donck, Rob Jonckheere, Thierry Coryn, Falke Knockaert, Gwendoline Nys, and Tim Seynaeve participated in this inspiring visit, which focused on knowledge sharing, future plans, and collaboration.

A fascinating exchange full of mutual respect, inspiration, and concrete common ground. We look forward to further deepening this collaboration between Ostend and Monaco.
