What these manifestations show is the big difference between organized events and non-organized events. A protest march organizer will never be disappointed when more people come than expected. The more people, the more powerful the message. The mass gives weight to your message and makes it relevant. Power of the message Yesterday's events prove that the events sector is very relevant now. Organizing means analyzing in advance to avoid problems. Knowledge and experience are crucial to avoid unforeseen situations. The power of the number doesn't really matter in most events. The goal is not the mass, but the content. And that makes an important difference. The urge of people to share experiences and connect with each other does not need mass. In a small bubble it can just as much fizz and bubble. But to link that content to a safe organization, the know-how and experience of the event sector is the best guarantee for a successful event without a bitter aftertaste. The organizers of yesterday's events were probably happy with the massive turnout, but now have to see with sorrow that their message is being snowed under by the reactions about the unsafe gathering. What is a success in normal circumstances becomes a problem in this corona time. Your message will go completely wrong. What yesterday's manifestations mainly prove is that a professional organization is particularly important now. Waarom de massa op het Poelaertplein de eventsector relevant maakt
Het borrelt in de maatschappij. De camera op een stikkende George Floyd laat niemand onbewogen en zet een hele massa wereldwijd in vuur en vlam. 'Social distancing' is tijdens dergelijke emotionele erupties het laatste van je zorgen voor een betoger. In het beste geval dient een mondmasker als barrière tegen het virus. Virologen zijn allerminst 'amused'. Ook mensen uit de event-sector distantieerden zich meteen dat dit niet representatief is voor events in het algemeen. Ze hebben natuurlijk gelijk. Wat deze manifestaties aantonen is het grote verschil tussen georganiseerde events en niet-georganiseerde events. De zichtbare risico's van dergelijke samenscholing in corona-tijd geeft daarom juist extra bestaansreden aan event-bouwers die wél een veilige organisatie kunnen garanderen.
Natuurlijk heeft racisme geen plaats in onze maatschappij, en dat mag duidelijk gezegd worden. Ik wil het niet hebben over de inhoud van de samenkomst, maar wel over wat deze massabijeenkomst bewijst. Ze toont aan hoe groot de drang is van mensen om samen te komen, verbondenheid te voelen, emoties te delen, ... Mensen willen deze mix van boosheid en verdriet collectief delen. Ik zag sprekers die tot tranen toe bewogen waren, een schreeuw die van diep komt en nu plots oorverdovend naar de oppervlakte komt. Mensen kwamen in Brussel en Antwerpen dicht bij elkaar, té dicht bij elkaar.
Macht van het getal
Deze manifestaties en de reacties erop tonen net aan wat het verschil is tussen event dat je goed kan organiseren en een event dat je bijna niet goed kan organiseren. De organisator verwachtte 5.000 aanwezigen… maar het worden er 10.000. Dan heb je een probleem. Altijd! Zeker bij events die hun oorsprong hebben in sentiment is een goede inschatting en dus een goede organisatie amper mogelijk.
Dat wordt nog versterkt door de macht van het getal. De massa is de boodschap. Een organisator van een protestmars zal nooit teleurgesteld zijn als er meer mensen komen dan verwacht. Hoe meer mensen, hoe krachtiger de boodschap. De massa geeft gewicht aan je boodschap en maakt ze relevant.
Kracht van de boodschap
De events van gisteren bewijzen dat de eventsector juist nu héél relevant is. Organiseren wil zeggen vooraf analyseren om problemen te voorkomen. Kennis en ervaring zijn cruciaal om onvoorziene situaties te vermijden. De macht van het getal speelt in de meeste events ook niet echt een rol. Het doel is niet de massa, maar wel de inhoud. En dat maakt een belangrijk verschil.
De drang van mensen om samen ervaringen te delen en zich met elkaar te verbinden, heeft geen massa nodig. In een kleine bubbel kan het evenzeer bruisen en borrelen. Maar om die inhoud te koppelen aan een veilige organisatie is de knowhow en ervaring van de eventsector dé beste garantie op een geslaagd event zonder wrange nasmaak.
De organisatoren van de manifestaties van gisteren waren allicht blij met de massale opkomst, maar moeten nu met lede ogen zien dat hun boodschap wordt ondergesneeuwd door de reacties over de onveilige samenscholing. Wat in normale omstandigheden een succes is, wordt in deze corona-tijd een probleem. Je boodschap gaat zo helemaal de mist in.
Wat de manifestaties van gisteren vooral bewijzen, is dat een professionele organisatie nu in het bijzonder enorm belangrijk is. De knowhow en ervaring van de eventsector is dé sleutel om een event veilig te laten verlopen. Daarbij is het verstandig om te organiseren vanuit de inhoud. Mits een ietwat andere aanpak en een goede organisatie kan je zowat elk verhaal vertalen naar een evenement. Het verhaal is belangrijker dan de massa.

Traditionele events zijn vandaag onmogelijk. Omwille van het algemeen belang zijn we tot fysieke afstand verplicht. Maar social distance is nergens voor nodig. “We moeten de sociale afstand juist verkleinen”, zegt Tom Bellens CEO van Push To Talk. Live Communicatie is de communicatie van de toekomst.
Live Communicatie is veel meer dan de belevenis op een evenement. Het gaat over ‘live’ ontmoetingen creëren tussen mensen. Het gaat over de inhoud, het verhaal. Welke angsten zijn er bij de medewerkers, wat is de visie van het management... Dit vraagt om een scenario, een draaiboek en een strakke regie. Bedrijven of organisaties waarbij de medewerkers weinig kansen hebben om elkaar fysiek te ontmoeten, willen ook de cultuur, de onderlinge contacten en de band versterken. Denk aan zorgverleners en veiligheidsdiensten die de klok rond werken, bedrijven of organisaties met vestigingen of werven over het hele land of met ploegarbeid.
Tom: “Mogelijk is er in veel bedrijven dit jaar geen zomerbarbecue, personeelsfeest of eindejaar drink meer gepland. In die zin beleven evenementen hun eigen crisis. Maar dat neemt niet weg dat mensen willen praten, ervaringen delen maar ook waardevolle initiatieven die de medewerkers ontplooien onderling delen… meer dan ooit zijn het de mensen op de werkvloer die het verschil nu maken en een essentieel onderdeel worden van de communicatie.”
Online events moeten live ontmoetingen worden met live communicatie en live conversaties. Professioneel georganiseerd, afwisselend, boeiend en relevant. Ze moeten authentieke verhalen brengen met echte emoties die mensen verbinden.
Virtual Convention (live en digital in the mix)
Virtual Conventions zijn een vorm van live communication met een mix van een tv-studio, een online evenement en een digitaal platform. Mensen komen niet naar een event, het event komt naar hen toe.
Virtual conventions hebben twee belangrijke functies: (1) verspreiden van top-down communicatie (informeren/betrekken) en (2) versterken en aanwakkeren van het community-gevoel binnen een bedrijf (binden). De eventlocatie voor een virtual convention is een reeds opgebouwde stand-alone audiovisuele setup. Het decor kan makkelijk aangepast worden aan het thema of aan de brand-identity van het bedrijf. Het event wordt gevolgd van thuis, vanop kantoor of met een beperkt publiek in de eventruimte zelf.
Tom: “Belangrijkste verschil en pluspunt van een Virtual Convention is de strikte timing en eventopbouw. Er zit schwung, diepgang en dynamiek in. Dat mis ik vaak bij een webinar of videoconferentie. Ik voel me in een tv-studio maar dan met live interactie.”

Het hoeft geen afgelikte ‘good news’ show te zijn wat mij betreft, uiteindelijk zijn we in crisis en vraagt dat een andere toon van communicatie.” aldus Tom.
“Dit is niet nieuw”, zegt Tom Bellens. “We doen dit al vele jaren live op evenementen maar wat ik wel merk is dat de drempelvrees om van achter een scherm een sterk inhoudelijk evenement te volgen enorm gedaald is. Als ik vroeger aan iemand zou gevraagd hebben om 45 minuten te kijken naar een corporate event op een iPad of smartphone zoals je doet met Youtube of Neflix dan zou men mij zot verklaard hebben. Nu merk ik dat - door corona - die drempel wegevallen is. Voorwaarde is wel dat we als bureau samen met de opdrachtgever de inhoud even catchy en dynamisch maken en overbrengen, maar dat is nu net onze corebusiness al meer dan 20 jaar. Onze ervaring ligt in het coachen van complexe content en het begeleiden we organisaties in een change management-parcours of strategische herprofilering.”
Tom Bellens: “Momenteel zijn we in gesprek met enkele organisaties om na de opstart midden mei hun medewerkers met deze formule te informeren over de aspecten van welzijn op de werkvloer, veiligheid, afstand bewaken, preventiemaatregelen maar eveneens om een klankbord te zijn. Mijn achtergrond als preventieadviseur helpt daarbij om dit mee wettelijk te onderbouwen en structureel in te bedden in de procedures en afspraken in de organisatie.”
“Ik zie dit absoluut als een blijver die zijn plaats zal innemen naast de gekende real life evenementen die we stap voor stap weer zullen mogen organiseren”, aldus Tom. Voordeel is dat je nu reeds bijzonder snel naar een grote doelgroep kunt communiceren, met interactie, met empathie en met afwisseling van gesprekken en video’s…”
